Chapter · 13:35-18:25

The Royal Navy concentrates against Germany

Without an Italian threat, modern destroyers, battleships, aircraft, and troops can move from Mediterranean commitments toward the Home Fleet and European war.

Notes

Neutrality radically changes British deployment before Italy historically entered the war. Modern destroyers and capital ships no longer need to cover the Mediterranean, Red Sea, or Italian East Africa, so the Home Fleet becomes stronger from the outset. Royal Oak probably still remains at Scapa Flow, but far more escorts and modern heavy ships are available around it. Britain can also draw down Middle Eastern and African garrisons while preserving more of its Far Eastern strength against Japan.
