The simulated convoy action places a battlecruiser within reach of two merchant convoys sailing far apart. A radio report of an enemy contact tells her where to turn and when to accelerate from cruising speed. The light-cruiser escorts try to hold the attacker long enough for the battlecruiser to intervene, accepting heavy damage in the process. The larger ship then gets between the surface raider and the merchants. Reversing the situation makes the same ship a threat to an enemy convoy. The game designs are approximations: extra armour compensates for controls that cannot reproduce real hull thickness and bulkhead spacing.

The Royal Navy's commerce-war battlecruiser
A simulated convoy action illustrates the British conception: light cruisers locate and delay a threat while a battlecruiser races in to protect or attack commerce.
