A delayed war revives the 9.2-inch cruiser

Why a war delayed to 1920 could restore a Royal Navy requirement for large 9.2-inch cruisers.

Question

Would the Royal Navy build 9.2-inch cruisers by 1920 if the First World War were delayed?

Short answer

Probably yes, because expensive battlecruisers would leave a gap between capital ships and light cruisers for station and imperial duties.

Notes

Tiger-like battlecruiser costs would make those ships too scarce for routine station work. Light cruisers were too small to serve as imperial station flagships. Large 9.2-inch cruisers would therefore return to fill the gap. Canada and Australia might prefer them to capital ships.
