Four regular and two reserve Royal Marine commandos would operate as self-contained battle groups, with any three able to form a brigade. Under normal availability, two LHDs and two Bay-class successors would carry only part of that maximum formation. Point-class ships would provide the remaining strategic lift. Six future lift ships with better accommodation would make it practical to deploy the additional troops and equipment without forcing them into inadequate living conditions.

Royal Marine battle groups and strategic lift
Four regular and two reserve Royal Marine battle groups could form larger amphibious formations, but their scale depends on Point-class strategic lift as well as LHD and dock-landing-ship availability.
