Romania's river force from the interwar period to 2025

Romania retained monitors, armoured patrol ships and minesweepers for river control and army support, with the January 2025 force also including fast intervention motorboats.

Notes

Romania's flotilla was important during the 1924 Tatarbunary Uprising and helped prevent German troops crossing the Danube from Bulgaria after the 1944 coup. River vessels continued to form part of its armed forces after the war. In the force described in January 2025, three Mihail Kogălniceanu-class monitors operated alongside five Smârdan-class armoured patrol ships. Twelve minesweepers and two fast intervention motorboats complemented the heavier vessels. This mix supported army manoeuvre and a continuing armed presence on the river while helping keep traffic moving.
