Roman coordination and the Spanish Armada

Rome coordinated fleets, armies, supplies, pay, and communications more effectively than Spain united its fleet and army during the Armada campaign.

Notes

The Spanish Armada shows that later technology did not guarantee better joint warfare. Roman administration concentrated on supplies, pay, communications, and fitting separate units into one campaign. These arrangements allowed fleets and armies to operate together along rivers and coasts. The Spanish monarchy could not coordinate its fleet with the army it was supposed to collect, which helped the operation fail. Institutions and command arrangements mattered more than chronology alone.
