Faced with a single heavy cruiser, the much larger fleet is reorganized by role and speed. Slower capital ships form a line, cruiser and destroyer divisions are matched by speed, some light forces screen, and faster units hunt independently. Ships with similar maximum speeds can manoeuvre together without forcing an entire formation down to the pace of an unsuitable member. The extended setup shows how formation speed and mission assignments shape command of a mixed fleet.
