Purpose-built boats supporting river crossings

Crossing forces can benefit from dedicated boats even when amphibious vehicles can swim and provide their own fire support.

Notes

Wide rivers create a need for support during shore-to-shore crossings. Amphibious vehicles can move in the water and may provide fire support of their own. Purpose-built boats can add security and are likely to offer better gun platforms because afloat operation is their normal role. Crossing support and mine clearance therefore remain important tasks for river forces.
