Thomas Pennant records Rhuddlan's ruins

Thomas Pennant's account of Rhuddlan in 1781 describes a ruin much like the castle that survives today.

Notes

Thomas Pennant was a Welsh naturalist and historian who recorded his travels through Wales and Britain. When he passed Rhuddlan in 1781, he documented the castle as largely ruined. Its condition then is described as similar to what visitors see today. His dated account provides a point of comparison for tracing changes in the monument's condition.
