Dry moats, flooded ground, and protected docking

Rhuddlan's river defences protect docking space in flooded ground, with a second area usable only when the water is high enough.

Notes

Rhuddlan combines a dry moat on the main approach with wet defences beside the river. Beyond the area marked 6 on the plan, low ground was normally marshy and often flooded. Ships could enter docking space there under the protection of the castle. Another area near marker 9 could also be used when sufficiently flooded. These arrangements let the garrison control access from the river and shelter vessels bringing supplies.
