Welsh troops in Edward I's 1277 campaign

Welsh troops account for 9,000 of the 16,000 men in Edward I's reported army, making up a majority of the force that defeats Llywelyn ap Gruffudd.

Notes

Llywelyn ap Gruffudd's defeat ends the first Welsh war by November 1277. Edward I's army is described as 16,000 troops, including 9,000 Welsh troops. Welsh manpower therefore supplies more than half of the reported force used against Llywelyn. Llywelyn's marriage plans are treated as an explanation for Edward's hostility. Renewed war follows in 1282, so the 1277 victory does not end the conflict.
