A fortified hub supplied from the sea

River access supports a castle designed to control a regional centre of logistical, cultural, and strategic importance.

Notes

Rhuddlan's huge towers provide fields of fire around a position intended to receive supplies easily by sea. The castle secures a logistical and strategic centre that also has cultural importance in the region. Sea power supports the movement of forces and supplies to that inland position. A drawing from the mid-nineteenth century shows the tower that anchors the curtain wall at the water's edge. Strong defences and continued access to shipping are intended to make the fortress difficult to capture quickly.
