By 1943 the ship's stressed hull and poor electrical systems required too much work for continued front-line use, though the Admiralty retained her as recoverable in an emergency. She carried Churchill on part of his journey toward the Tehran Conference, freeing a more capable battleship for active duty. At Southampton she became a training ship for boiler personnel before her main armament was removed. Her eight 15-inch barrels enlarged the common pool serving Ramillies, Warspite, and bombardment monitors supporting Operation Overlord. After scrapping, rack-and-pinion and turret gearing from Revenge and Royal Sovereign was reused to move the Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank.
