The king promised that no subject would be punished for acts injuring his government between 25 February and the restoration. His proclamation also ordered the release of prisoners and suspended business for ten days of celebration. At the ceremony the British flag came down and the Hawaiian flag rose, accompanied by 21-gun salutes from the fort, park guns and HMS Carysfort, Dublin and Hazard. Honolulu's Thomas Square was named for the admiral and commemorates the place of restoration. At the time of the recording, it was described as one of four places in Hawaii where the Hawaiian flag could fly without the United States flag.
