How long did it take to research and write your book?
Short answerAbout four or five years, completed alongside paid work after the PhD.
NotesThe book took about four or five years after the doctorate and was completed alongside paid work. Research outside a funded university post has to compete with teaching, family life, rest, and other obligations. Dyslexia also lengthened the writing process in this case. Publication pace alone is therefore a poor measure of the research and labour behind a naval history monograph.
