Renown mounted four 32-calibre 10-inch guns in two twin barbettes, with 105 shells allocated to each gun. Ten quick-firing 6-inch weapons formed the secondary battery, but the low forward and after casemates could become too wet to use even when the middle positions stayed dry. A dozen 12-pounder 76 mm guns, eight mounted high amidships, supplied the faster fire needed against torpedo boats. The arrangement shows why combat-ready firepower depends on mounting height, sea state, ammunition, and target type rather than a paper total alone.

Renown's mixed battery and torpedo-boat defence
Renown's layered battery combined heavy guns, quick-firing secondary weapons, and 12-pounders, but mounting position and sea state limited what could actually fire.
