HMS Renown of 1895 is separate from the later battlecruiser that served in both world wars. This earlier ship sits in the design lineage that preceded the battlecruiser label. Jacky Fisher loved Renown and used her to test ideas that fed into his wider naval thinking. She gave him an operational ship on which to try concepts before they appeared in later designs.
