Reinforcements from the East Indies and Australia

Ships from the East Indies Station and the Royal Australian Navy could thicken the allied cruiser screen while the initial crisis is still unfolding.

Notes

The Fourth Cruiser Squadron can bring the Town-class cruisers Liverpool, Manchester, and Gloucester alongside the County-class Norfolk. The Royal Australian Navy contributes Canberra, Hobart, Sydney, and several destroyers. Achilles may provide a New Zealand Leander-class cruiser, although the exact 1939 disposition remains uncertain. Home-defence duties, refit commitments, and long distances prevent these ships from forming a neat prewar battle fleet. Their arrival still exposes Japanese merchant traffic and isolated naval units to greater risk. The imperial station system allows scattered strength to concentrate as the crisis develops.
