The plan assumes the historically scheduled January arrival of the 18th Infantry Division and the 44th and 45th Indian Infantry Brigades. The 18th Division moves forward to reinforce the prepared position alongside the Australian 8th, Indian 9th, and hopefully intact 11th Indian Divisions. The two Indian brigades remain at Singapore rather than being fed directly into the line. This allocation makes the mainland formation substantially stronger without stripping the island of troops against a bypass or amphibious move. Reinforcement is therefore used to deepen the existing design instead of starting a new northern defence.

Use arriving troops to deepen the mainland line
January reinforcements would put the 18th Infantry Division into the prepared position while retaining the arriving Indian brigades at Singapore.
