Defining Italian naval cooperation with the Allies

A meeting in Taranto framed how the Regia Marina would work with the Allies after Italy changed sides.

Notes

At Taranto, de Courten and Allied representatives reached a gentleman's agreement defining the Regia Marina's collaboration with the Allies. He remained Minister of the Navy until July 1946 and chief of the naval staff until December of that year. He resigned the staff post in protest at the naval clauses of the Paris peace treaties. Cooperation with the Allies during the war still left a dispute over the peace terms facing the Italian Navy.
