Hypothetical post-1962 refits of Stalingrad and Sovetsky Soyuz place missile launchers near heavy-gun installations. Their close spacing raises concern that gunfire would damage missiles, or that missile launches would interfere with the guns. In the Red Fleet scenario, the Stalingrads lose their after turrets in favor of helicopter decks. That arrangement gives the missile systems more separation and provides anti-submarine helicopter support for surface-action groups. The slower Sovetsky Soyuz remains a Baltic flagship and training ship within the imagined fleet.

Gun blast and missile placement in hypothetical Soviet refits
Imagined Soviet refits show why heavy guns, missile launchers, and anti-submarine helicopter facilities compete for safe deck space.
