Disagreement remains over the sequence of events around the separate parts of the battle. Some surviving reconstructions draw on later historians who assembled material from other accounts. Inscriptions on graves and monuments provide another fragmentary line of evidence. These sources preserve a considerable amount about a battle fought in 256 BC, but they do not resolve every question about how it unfolded.
