Chapter ยท 2:23:49-2:27:39

Reconnaissance, withdrawal, and extending the line

A dragoon probe reveals hidden troops, withdraws toward the main force, and gives the defender time to extend the line under artillery cover.

Notes

Dragoons probe a suspected hidden position because their mobility makes them easier to withdraw after contact. Once the enemy is located, the probe falls back and draws pursuers toward the prepared force. The infantry line extends to meet an attempted flank movement while artillery keeps firing into the approach. The game briefly produces friendly fire as formations overlap, prompting the observation that disciplined formation tactics should usually prevent it. The sequence connects reconnaissance with withdrawal, line adjustment, and supporting fire.
