The rapid disposal of Type XXIII boats

British and Polish destroyers disposed of Type XXIII boats in quick succession on 27 and 28 November 1945.

Notes

Several Type XXIII boats were lost on 27 November, followed by another concentrated group the next day. HMS Onslow and ORP Piorun feature in the gunfire accounts. One boat foundered under tow after leaving Loch Ryan, and its final treatment is uncertain. The daily totals are revised while the list is read, so the passage establishes rapid disposal without providing a consistent combined count. The suggestion that this urgency reflected concern about the Type XXIII remains an interpretation.
