Kolkata range and the Maareech torpedo decoy

A 6,000-nautical-mile cruising range and the Maareech torpedo decoy show how Kolkata extended both endurance and underwater survivability.

Notes

The Kolkata class increased cruising endurance to about 6,000 nautical miles at 18 knots even as top speed settled near 30 knots. The earlier Delhi figure was 4,500 nautical miles at the same cruising speed. Kolkata also carried the Maareech advanced torpedo decoy, adding underwater protection alongside its other defensive systems. Greater endurance and improved decoys formed part of the class's development as well as its missiles and stealth shaping.
