Ramsay uses Vosper speed to inspect the Dunkirk routes

Admiral Ramsay used the fast Vosper for night journeys to inspect Dunkirk conditions himself, usually by Routes X or Z rather than the longer Route Y.

Notes

At Dunkirk, speed gave the Vosper a command and reconnaissance role beyond torpedo attack. Admiral Bertram Ramsay used it for journeys that went out and returned during the hours of darkness, allowing him to inspect conditions himself. These trips usually followed Route X or Route Z, while the longer Route Y was rarely used. A scarce fast boat could therefore improve operational awareness during the evacuation while many other Coastal Forces craft remained under construction.
