Why the Raid on the Medway does not qualify

The Dutch raid falls outside a study of lost British global sea control because Britain had not yet established that control in 1667.

Notes

The 1667 Raid on the Medway preceded Britain's established global command of the sea. The Royal Navy was already powerful, but it operated alongside substantial Dutch, French, and Spanish fleets. Its position was still contested. Treating the raid as the loss of an existing global command would assign England a maritime supremacy it had yet to acquire.
