Radio direction finding informed the land commander

Carton de Wiart kept his headquarters aboard destroyers partly to use naval radio-direction-finding reports to estimate German positions.

Notes

Radio direction finding was one reason Carton de Wiart kept his headquarters aboard destroyers. Naval reports gave him bearings on radio chatter coming from German forces. Those directions helped him form a rough idea of where the Germans were. The army commander could use information collected by the ships during operations ashore.
