Radar, guided weapons, and the combat information centre changed where a captain could best understand a fight. The bridge preserved outside visibility, but it no longer held the fullest picture once engagements extended beyond visual range. Some captains continued to command from the bridge with an officer in the CIC, while others moved below to reach information more quickly. The shift shows that missile-era ship design reorganized command as well as weapons and sensors.
