Racing knowledge and available engines shape British MTBs

Motorboat racing advanced planing-hull knowledge, while Vosper's move from Italian engines intended for Russian boats to Packards shows how supply choices shaped production craft.

Notes

Motorboat racing provided practical development work for high-speed planing hulls. Suitable engines were equally important. Early Vospers used Italian engines from a Russian motor torpedo boat order that fell through, while later boats used Packards. Civilian experimentation and access to machinery both influenced British coastal-craft design.
