Why Queen Mary was an improved Lion

Queen Mary was a second-batch Lion whose incremental improvements helped point toward Tiger.

Notes

HMS Queen Mary was an improved, second-batch Lion, a more precise description than the familiar label "transitional battlecruiser." Her design refined a known formula, restored officers' quarters to the stern, and remained intended to fight enemy battlecruisers. Moving the quarters separated work from rest and kept sleeping officers away from action spaces. The comparison with the denser, more subdivided Tiger shows how Queen Mary's evolutionary step fed the Royal Navy's continuing search for a fast, hard-hitting capital ship.
