Question

Could Type 31 become a modern Tribal-class equivalent?

Short answer

Type 31 is compared with a flexible modern Arethusa rather than a direct Tribal successor.

Notes

The Type 31 frigates are compared with the Arethusas rather than presented as a new Tribal class. The analogy emphasizes broad utility and a flexible general-purpose role. A specialist destroyer lineage arose from a different tactical setting. Treating the modern frigate as a direct recreation would therefore obscure the comparison being made.
