Could Tribal-class destroyers receive better dual-purpose guns?

Mounting constraints limited an L- or M-class 4.7-inch refit, while a later non-deck-penetrating twin 4.5-inch mount offered a more plausible path.

Question

Could a Tribal-class destroyer have been refitted with the improved L- and M-class 4.7-inch mounts?

Short answer

Probably not without major structural difficulty, although a later twin 4.5-inch refit was considered if the war continued.

Notes

Fitting the Tribals with the updated 4.7-inch mounting used by the L and M classes would have raised mounting-ring and support problems. Those constraints made the conversion doubtful. A late-war proposal instead considered the non-deck-penetrating twin 4.5-inch mounting later associated with the Daring class. Turret geometry and ship structure could therefore rule out an apparently simple gun substitution.
