Are any British Second World War aircraft carriers still preserved?
Short answerNo surviving example was identified; later Ark Royal and Hermes were also sent for scrap.
NotesNo surviving British carrier from the Second World War generation, including the light fleet carriers, was identified at the time of the talk. The usual explanation is that postwar reconstruction left too little money or interest for preserving ships of this size. The later Ark Royal had already been broken up in Turkey. Hermes, the nearest surviving continuation of the lineage, had likewise been sold for scrap in 2019.
