Training Star Trek's security crews for ground combat

How would the Enterprise's five-year mission differ with Dr. Clarke replacing Kirk?

The proposed changes are fewer diversions and much more ground-combat training for the security crews.

In this imagined command, the priority would be to stop losing so many security personnel on away missions. Daily combat drills would teach the redshirts to fight as infantry. Those deaths are treated as a training and command problem to address before the next landing.
