Could Britain mount a modern Falklands operation?

Britain could probably answer Argentina's present force, but concentrating the task group would consume nearly every available naval option.

Question

Could the present Royal Navy carry out a Falklands-style operation?

Short answer

Probably against Argentina's current forces, but the task would absorb so much of the available fleet that Britain could do little else at the same time.

Notes

Feasibility depends on the opponent being Argentina's existing force rather than its 1982 strength or a hypothetical force reinforced by another power. Britain could probably generate enough ships and aircraft for that narrower task. Doing so would concentrate scarce carriers, escorts, and support assets in one operation and leave little capacity for any other demand. A modern Falklands operation is therefore a force-generation problem as much as a comparison of individual ships and aircraft.
