Could First World War officers know Farragut's generation?

Could officers of the First World War have known people connected with Farragut?

Yes, with qualifications. Some links could be personal, while others ran through teachers and older professional contacts.

Some senior First World War officers could have known people connected with Farragut. They belonged to a generation closer to Civil War service than the Second World War admirals discussed earlier. Many older officers were no longer around as the profession changed, which limits claims of direct acquaintance. Teachers and other professional contacts offered an additional route for experience to pass between generations.
