What happened to the North Sea Mine Barrage after World War I?
Short answerMuch of it was recovered, while storms removed or destroyed other parts before World War II.
NotesThe barrage did not remain intact through the interwar years. Much of it was recovered after World War I, while storms dispersed or destroyed other parts. By the opening of World War II it no longer formed the northern barrier Britain had built in the previous conflict. Its disappearance fits the wider picture of defenses that had been cleared, decayed, or allowed to vanish before 1939.
