The pyramid hull's exposed-survivability problem

A detachable inner vessel could improve survivability, but the visible pyramid arrangement leaves it too exposed to justify the concept as shown.

Notes

The central pyramid could serve as an escape or command module able to leave a damaged outer structure behind. That would give the crew, engines, and essential systems a route home after the surrounding hull became unusable. The design shown, however, does not fully enclose or armor the inner module, so it receives no obvious physical protection from the outer structure. Relying on reinforced shields around it would also risk creating weaker shield sectors elsewhere, giving an opponent a predictable place to concentrate fire.
