When trauma appears as an inability to return to driving

A personal account of a former service member who stopped driving illustrates how a narrow change in behaviour can be difficult to recognize as a reason to seek help.

Notes

A participant points out that PTSD does not manifest in the same way for everyone. Alex gives the example of a friend who drove extensively while serving but stopped driving after leaving the forces. The friend treated this as simply not wanting to drive, making it difficult to persuade them to seek help. Alex describes it as the only obvious symptom in that person's case and leaves open whether they will drive again.
