Printed rules and the Sydney Gazette check military power

King used printed orders and a newspaper to make colonial authority harder for soldiers to misrepresent.

Notes

King supported the printing of the New South Wales General Standing Orders and encouraged the Sydney Gazette. Copies of the official rules allowed more people to check what powers soldiers actually possessed. That made military misrepresentation harder. The newspaper also widened the circulation of colonial information during King's struggle with the New South Wales Corps.
