Chapter · 3:13-8:36

An unusually international naval education

Follow Fushimi from early Japanese training through German and British study, war service, and rapid ascent in the Imperial Japanese Navy.

Notes

Fushimi entered the Japanese Naval Academy at about eleven, left before completing its course, and enrolled in the German naval academy while still a teenager. After returning to Japanese service, he served aboard cruisers and battleships and was wounded during the Battle of the Yellow Sea in the Russo-Japanese War. Later study at Greenwich and King's College London added British experience to his German education. The video then traces a rapid but substantial progression through commands, the Supreme War Council, and promotion to admiral. This background helps explain why he entered high command with foreign exposure, combat experience, and long service in the fleet.
