Chapter · 33:57-34:51

Reliable prewar orders finance American industrial expansion

Orders placed from 1938 through 1941 create demand before US entry into the war, but only credible finance and delivery commitments make investment possible.

Notes

Orders placed in 1938, 1939, 1940, and 1941 help explain the extraordinary scale of American wartime construction. Those contracts provide demand and time for factories to expand before the United States enters the war directly. They belong to the wider financial story of Lend-Lease and earlier support arrangements, since output does not follow automatically from national size. Creditworthiness and confidence in delivery both matter before loans and contracts can support investment. Industrial readiness grows from finance, trust, orders, and delivery capacity.
