A historic class unlikely to leave a museum ship

Nuclear deactivation makes preservation improbable even though the class may span six or seven generations of naval aircraft.

Notes

The class participated in so many acknowledged operations that merely listing their names would take many minutes. Removing reactors and preparing such a vast nuclear ship for preservation would be extraordinarily difficult. The absence of a preserved postwar supercarrier from the preceding conventionally powered generation makes the prospect even less likely. If the later ships serve into the 2060s or beyond, they may host aircraft types not yet conceived and span far more than the roughly four aircraft generations typical of a carrier career.
