Why a damaged ship could escape before radar

A damaged battlecruiser's return toward combat becomes a short lesson in how easily contact could be lost before radar.

Notes

The damaged ship should withdraw rather than make a dramatic return to the fight. With the main battleship action moving miles away, a pre-radar opponent would have little chance of finding a battlecruiser that quietly continued its escape. The example shows that disengagement depends on detection conditions as well as speed and damage. It also warns against reading a game's persistent battlefield awareness back into historical command decisions.
