How pre-dreadnought habits outlasted the type

A ship built around a gun for every contingency can leave a navy with complicated weapons, supply, and training habits.

Notes

Deutschland-class survivors linked the German fleet's pre-dreadnought experience to World War II, including Schleswig-Holstein's role at Danzig during the attack on Poland. The older practice of carrying many specialized weapons differed from dreadnought-era efforts to simplify a ship around more standardized firepower. Decades of operating mixed-battery ships could preserve expectations for separate anti-aircraft, anti-surface, and main-gun systems. Inherited equipment, crew training, production skills, and habits can then shape later procurement choices.
