Pravda-class submarines combined large size with training and transport roles

The Pravda class appears as a large training and transport design, with newspaper-like names and the wartime loss of Pravda off Finland.

Notes

The Pravda class is introduced through the names Truth, Star, and Spark, a grouping compared jokingly with Soviet newspapers. These were large boats, given here as 1,200 tons surfaced and 1,870 tons submerged. Training and transport duties formed part of their intended use. Pravda, whose name means Truth, is identified as the boat lost off Finland.
