Italy authorized seven PPAs while positioning itself in the European patrol-corvette debate, later replacing two exported hulls so the domestic total remained seven. These roughly 6,000-ton ships can operate across several propulsion modes and range from light configurations to heavily equipped variants. Full versions can add Aster missiles through Sylver A50 cells, while lighter ships remain fitted for systems not initially installed. Their five-inch and 76 mm guns provide depth across warning, surface, shore, and air-defense tasks even before missiles and torpedoes are counted.
