Chapter · 44:39-49:29

When powerful assets are used below their potential

The fate of the Midian Breach and uncertain cruiser numbers support a wider critique: a capable fleet still fails if leaders do not understand how to organize and employ it.

Notes

The Midian Breach is described as a crippled but potentially valuable heavy cruiser whose capabilities are squandered as a prison and a trap. The Collectors possess the archival knowledge that might have restored it, making their failure to exploit the hull especially revealing. A proposed concentration of at least five such cruisers with escorts shows what a true heavy battle group could do. Vanguard, Silent Debate, and Continuation of Politics are also lost at the Battle of Witch Head, placing the named cruisers within the rebellion's attrition. These examples return to the mismatch between the Commonwealth's enormous claimed fleet and the apparently scarce command cruisers needed to make its battle-group system work.
