The refit that might have sent Enterprise to the Pacific

A considered anti-aircraft conversion could have accompanied HMS Victorious and placed the British Enterprise beside her American namesake.

Notes

The Royal Navy considered sending cruisers with Victorious during the carrier's Pacific service as USS Robin. Enterprise was attractive because her range suited distant operations, and planners examined an Atlanta-like conversion or a British equivalent armed with 4.5-inch guns. The plan was rejected because the cruiser remained highly useful in her existing role rather than because conversion was impossible. Had the deployment and refit proceeded, the British Enterprise might plausibly have operated alongside the American carrier of the same name.
